Introduction:
Unifiram is an ampakine-like drug derived from biarylpropylsulfonamide, and has antiamnesic and other effects in animal studies with up to a thousand times higher potency than piracetam. Unifiram is shown to reduce the duration of hypnosis induced by pentobarbital, without impairing motor coordination.
Unifiram, like sunifiram, is an AMPA-kine compound meaning it upmodulates the AMPA neurotransmitters which are a part of the Glutamergic “excitatory” system. Glutamate and the rest of the excitatory system is responsible for promting neuronal firing. In this way Unifiram’s AMPA-kine activity improves synaptic transmission in the brain. A potent antiamnesic compound with potency (based on volume) a few thousand-fold that of piracetam.
